Strategy 1
The classic ball-shooter. Our inital design would be a hollow robot with a open channel through the center.
This would allow balls to be shot both forward and backwards. Unfortunately, after completing a fully working
version of this, we realized that this strategy resulted in a slow robot, and the shooter was not as effective as
we hoped. Alternative solutions were then sought.
Strategy 2
In the yearning to create a robot that would be inspiring to youngsters in the audience, research and
experimentation began on a flying (helicopter-like) robot. Upon calculation, the propeller length was estimated
to be about 1.5 meters based on the motor we had available. This is clearly too large to fit into the restricting
1 ft^3 box. Another solution was sought.
Strategy 3
Simplicity is the key to this strategy. Use three motors to power
each wheel. Combine this with a 25:1 gear ratio
and you end up with a very powerful machine.
