About Yasu's Mom

Yasu is last year's 6.270 winner. Our robot is dedicated to his mother. Throughout the month she cooked sausages for us. She also gave us the inspiration to make the best robot possible. In addition, Yasu's Mom is the president of the Japanese Wives' Club, one of the premier organizations supporting the Japanese spousal community. If it were not for the Japanese Wives' Club (JWC), Yasu would not exist. Therefore, we dedicate this robot to Yasu's Mom, who is dear to us all.

Our robot, a.k.a. Yasu's Mom, runs on two independent driving wheels, each powered by two motors. The gearbox has a 45:1 gear ratio. The steering wheel is an active caster, which is oriented by a servo. Our ball pushing mechanism, is a fixed claw-like structure. For sensors we first used break-beam sensors to ensure a straight-driving robot. Other sensors included three IR sensors on the bottom of the robot in order to detect the initial orientation. One unique feature of our robot is a perfectly encased RF holder, which houses the most important part of the robot, the RF receiver. The motors and servo are powered by three 6-Volt Hawker Batteries, and the sensors are powered by the unhandy Handy-Board.
