Solder Boy - Robot

6.270 Autonomous Robot

Solder Boy

Here are some photos of the robot we spent IAP building.
Our robot's gear ratio was 120:1 and used a worm gear in order to decrease the number of gears necessary to achieve this ratio. This also helped us have a small compact gear train with less friction. The only disadvantage to this system is that he robot would not roll when pushed because the gear would lock. The robot was balanced by a third caster wheel which would rotate around 360 degrees. Also the robot has a ball dropper that was meant to go over the edge of the board and drop balls into the bins. This is powered by a conveyor and that uses the 3rd motor in our robot. This also powered by a wormtooth gear.
