One important lesson that we have learned from this tournament is the importance
of an excellent driving system. It greatly simplifies things later on if driving
straight and perfect rotation is no longer a problem to be concerned about. In
fact, we think it worth it to dedicate the first week to developing a reliable
driving system.

After that, strategy goes into priority. Usually, there are several objectives
in the game, and coming up with a robot which can do them all is a big plus.
However, time constraint might limit your ability to carry out all those
objectives. A good example of this is this year?s objective, which includes
getting small balls or big balls. The team who wins the competition happens to
be the team which can go after small balls and big balls at the same time.

When you have defined a strategy, spend the remaining time to develop scoring
mechanism which fits with it, and don?t do major change in your strategy at
the last moment. As the deadline approaches, people will start using the game
board more often, and you will have less chance to test whether your strategy
will work well or not. We think it is best to spend the remaining time on
improvement to the remaining strategy instead.

Lego is fun, but lego technik is much more engaging as it allows you to
explore and test, basically, almost every new idea that you may have. For
the students who are interested in this class, don't be afraid to take
it. It's very fun. However, we would suggest that you don't take anything
else together with 6.270. 6.270 alone will make you busier than you might
have thought. Also, don't be afraid to share your technique and knowledge.
If you do that, others will give it back to you as well. =)
