The Robot

Mevtron is best described as a scorpion: his front set of pincers have a span that pushes the very limits of the competition at one foot across, while a sturdy strut from the back of the robot extends to create a canopying "tail" above the core of the robot. This canopy acts as a housing for the machine's Happyboard, secure above the main bulk of the robot that may be struck during a competition.

For more specific details, Mevtron weighs in at 3.5 pounds, with a square foot base and seven inches of height to the top of the canopy. Three motors drive the three gear trains on Mevtron - one motor for each of the two driving wheels, and one for the front-end ball catch mechanism. All three trains run on a 75:1 gear ratio. While this trade-off yields a bit less overall speed for the robot, ultimately the power gained was far more important for ensuring Mevtron's mobility.
