Fallen Angel

STRATEGY

During the first week of the course, we thought of many creative and unique strategies for approaching this competition. And so with this in mind, we agreed that we wanted to do very well in this competition and that we truly wanted to bring our vision of an almighty robot into a reality. But what we never expected was that the extent of time necessary to do this was beyond our calculations. We tried to go for a complex, effective strategy that would be successful in most cases (of course assuming the construction and integration of the system went well).

Our main strategy began by first orientating our robot in the direction of our four balls and driving as quickly as possible to their location to collect them. Once this was accomplished, our robot would zoom across the table to the location of our opponent's two balls and collect them too. After this, our robot would then travel to the other end of the table and collect our own two balls. During this whole process, our robot would also be sorting the balls. The two opponent's balls would be held till the last five seconds of the competition and then released. As for our own balls, one would remain with the robot and the other five would be placed in a basket. The basket still attached to our robot would be left in one of the corner scoring areas (X or Z) and our robot with its one ball would remain in the middle scoring zone (Y). Thus, we would dominate in two scoring zones and win the competition.
